Society for Risk Analysis Dec. 2-5, 2001 Seattle, WA (RAC will
likely host some type of event depending on outcome of annual
plan)
New NCTR technical representative: Angelo Turturro
Ralph Kodell will remain the policy representative for NCTR

9:30-10:30 quick updates from RAC members (4 minutes each)
RAC technical representatives present gave brief summaries of
the hot projects in their offices.
10:30 - 10:45 Review of ARS-FSIS research planning meeting
Audrey Ichida summarized the 15 pages of notes she took at the
meeting (held in early Jan.)
10:45 - 11:00 Review of the September 28, 2000 public meeting
on Dose-response (L. Posnick)
Lauren Posnick presented the history of the planning process
for the Cryptosporidium dose-response meeting and the responses
from the panel in answer to the questions asked by the planning
committee. The availability of the meeting transcripts and slides was announced.
11:00 - 11:30 Clearinghouse update (W. Fineblum)
Wendy Fineblum presented the new features on Clearinghouse, since
the last RAC update (summer 2000). She also previewed the new
Clearinghouse site design, which is still being built.
11:30 - 11:45 Review of the Dec 5th Clearinghouse data quality
public meeting (M. Ross)
Marianne Ross updated the RAC on the public meeting that was
held in Dec. on data quality standards. She announced that the
transcript is available as well as a video tape. A web
version of the meeting summary is under preparation.
11:45 - 12:00 Review of annual plan goals and mid-year accomplishments
(A. Ichida & W. Long) (handout)
Audrey Ichida went over each bullet on the 2000-2001 annual plan
and highlighted the items that have not yet been completed.
1:00 - 2:00 NCTR capabilities and current projects
Angelo Turturro presented a risk assessment model for predicting
Cryptosporidium outbreak severity.
2:00 - 3:30 EPA/ILSI microbial risk assessment framework (S.
Schaub)
Steve Schaub presented the draft framework for microbial risk
assessment that EPA/OW is designing. The RAC was invited to participate
in the framework design and a working group was formed.
3:45 - 4:40 EPA Risk Assessment Forum (W. Wood)
Bill Wood outlined the history of risk assessment at EPA and
the internal infrastructure set up to standardize the process
of initiating, doing and reviewing risk assessments.
4:40 - 5:00 Discussion on peer review needs for microbiological
risk assessments (S. Dennis)
Sherri Dennis (FDA/CFSAN) asked RAC members about their agencies' peer
review processes because CFSAN is working on a formalized process
for the center.

Dick Whiting presented the Listeria risk assessment (CFSAN/FSIS).
RAC members offered comments about the model and assumptions.
11:45 - noon ORACBA upcoming project on sensitivity analysis
for food safety risk analyses (M. McElvaine)
Michael McElvaine (via phone) presented the ORACBA, North Carolina
State Cooperative agreement regarding a project on sensitivity
analysis in risk assessments.
