• Conduct research on microbial food safety. 
• Plan and conduct food safety research focusing on identification of foodborne bacteria including unknown organisms, Shiga toxin-producting E. coli (STEC) and Salmonella. 
• Record and publish research findings. 
• Prepare and submit research reports and proposals. 
• Monitor progress of activities and ensure that timelines and deliverables are achieved.  

• Evaluating and improving composition, methods of processing, storage, and distribution of Publix Manufacturing products.  This includes:
- using chemistry, microbiology, engineering, and other sciences to study the principles underlying the processing and deterioration of product
- analyzing food content data to determine levels of vitamins, fat, sugar, protein, and other attributes for special projects including new products and
- searching for ingredients and desirable and functional additives for use within our food products 
• Ideation and innovation of new and existing products and product categories produced by Publix Manufacturing to include establishing product specifications for shelf life, formula, and critical limits for both safety and quality
• Coordinating high priority projects that involve  both R&D managers and hourly associates including acting as a consultant to the R&D managers and associates with regard to questions concerning product composition, ingredient functionality, ingredient interactions, etc and
• Providing answers to technical questions, regarding ingredient functionality, interactions, product safety and shelf life enhancements from the Retail Business Unit, plant management, Manufacturing/Supply Purchasing (MSP), Publix customers, etc.

This is a 12-month tenure-track position in the Department of Animal Sciences, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. It will be 30% teaching (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences), and 70% research (Florida Agricultural Experiment Station and Emerging Pathogens Institute). The major duties of this position will be to develop and implement a research program in animal product microbiology with emphasis on food safety, particularly at the pre-harvest level.

This is a 9-month position as a full-time lecturer.Teaching responsibilities of the position would include instruction of:

• Companion Animal Care and Management (ANSC250) each semester (100 seats each Fall and Spring semester),
• Physiology of Mammalian Reproduction (ANSC446)
  
• Physiology of Mammalian Reproduction Laboratory (ANSC447) each Fall semester (40 seats)
  
• Introduction to Diseases of Wildlife (ANSC252) each Fall semester (50 seats),
  
• Applied Small Ruminant Parturition (ANSC235) each Spring semester (30 seats),
  
• Health Management of Animal Populations (ANSC340) each Spring semester (50 seats).  

This position is a 9-month academic appointment. Responsibilities include establishment of a nationally recognized, competitively funded research program in molecular nutrition. Teaching responsibilities include Vitamins and Minerals as well as Molecular Nutrition courses. Participation in our graduate program and training of graduate students is expected.
